Meet Mitch.
With more than 43 years of law enforcement experience, Mitch Robinson is running for Sheriff to continue his lifelong commitment to public safety and service to Washington County. Having served in both rural communities and large metropolitan areas, Mitch brings a broad, practical understanding of modern law enforcement and the evolving challenges facing today’s communities.
Throughout his career, Mitch has responded to and investigated cases ranging from theft to homicide, led patrol and investigative divisions, and trained the next generation of law enforcement officers. He understands the critical role modern technology plays in effective policing and is committed to strengthening public safety through innovation, accountability, and the responsible use of taxpayer resources.
A lifelong Washington County resident, Mitch grew up in Fort Calhoun and graduated from Fort Calhoun High School. He and his wife Coleene have been married for over four decades and raised their three children in Washington County. His mother still lives in Washington County, and his siblings raised their families here as well. Today, the next generation continues that tradition, with nieces, nephews, and grandchildren proudly calling Washington County home.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Mitch has dedicated decades to public service and community leadership. By the end of his current term, he will have served 16 years as Mayor of Fort Calhoun, where he built a legacy of bringing the community together, fostering collaboration, and leading with steady, thoughtful governance. Through this role, he gained extensive experience in budgeting, policy development, and personnel management—reinforcing his belief that strong public safety must be paired with fiscal responsibility, transparency, and community trust.
Mitch is running for Sheriff to apply his decades of experience, proven leadership, and deep local roots to keep Washington County safe, strong, and well-served—today and for generations to come.
